Who We Are

RSVP works to...

    • Recruit people age 55+ for volunteer assignments addressing community needs in local agencies.
    • Develop volunteer opportunities that utilize the skills, experience and wisdom of older adults.
    • Increase the variety of volunteer opportunities available to older adults.
    • Provide opportunities for intergenerational activities and projects in school and community settings.
    • Increase public awareness of the contributions of older adults and report to funding sources the community impact of those contributions.
    • Provide personalized placement and follow-up of volunteers to ensure an enriching and satisfying volunteer experience.

What We Do

The Portage County Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is one of 17 Wisconsin projects funded by AmeriCorps and is sponsored locally by the Aging & Disability Resource Center The mission of the Portage County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is to promote volunteerism, targeting people age 55 and over, as a means of addressing critical community needs and to provide a high quality experience that will enrich the lives of the volunteers.

The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) of Portage County provides opportunities for adults ages 55+ to work one-on-one and/or in small group settings with students in area schools under the guidance of a teacher. FGP volunteers receive a tax-exempt stipend and mileage reimbursement for their service of 7.5-20 hours per week. The stipend and mileage reimbursements do not affect any other benefits received and is not counted toward earned income.
