Volunteer Needs From: United Way of Portage County Volunteer Center

With GiGi's Playhouse being a non-profit serving families with a Down syndrome diagnosis and related disabilities outreach is extremely important!  Our Outreach Committee meets twice a month (Sunday 7-8pm).  We work out details for connecting with schools, therapy centers, medical professionals, local businesses, and other community organizations to spread awareness of the services of GiGi's Playhouse.  This committee is also responsible for smaller family events at the Playhouse like Easter and Christmas parties.

GiGi's Playhouse is a non-profit providing free educational and therapeutic programing to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Students studying education, OT, PT, even physical fitness or music would fit.  Those in speech and communication disorders would be a great fit for fall 2021 as we will be doing a one-on-one literacy pilot program.

GiGi's Playhouse Wausau has an amazing Youth Board that is active in all aspects of the Playhouse, everything from advocating acceptance in schools to volunteering at events.  The Youth Board meets once a month and often has communication outside of the meeting through a GroupMe app. Must be over age 13 and apply by the end of June 2021.

Program volunteers play an integral role within GiGi’s Playhouse by facilitating educational and therapeutic skill development activities and connecting with families. Don't worry all training is provided and you will be with 2 to 3 other volunteers.  We provide sample lesson plans, program guides and a host of resources to help support you!  We ask that program volunteers make a commitment to summer, fall, and/or spring sessions to keep consistency for participants. 

Destination Discovery (all ages) 3rd Wednesday of the month 5-6:30pm

Fantastic Friends (ages 18+) 1st Tuesday of the month 6-7:30pm & 3rd Sunday of the month 2-3:30pm

Special Olympics Young Athletes (ages 2-10) 8 week session to begin in fall 2021 Mondays 6-6:46pm

With GiGi's Playhouse being a non-profit fundraising is extremely important!  Our Fundraising Committee meets once a month (1st Thursday of the month 5:30-6:30pm).  We work out details of our two largest events for the year, a 5K Glow Fun Run/Walk and a GiGi's Crafted Locally Made event with a picnic featuring local artisans and farmer items. Additional discussion, on smaller fundraising opportunities within the community. We would love to have anyone with non-profit, fundraising, event planning experience.
