Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services looks for Respite Care Volunteers nwho can offer the gift of time to family members who have a loved one in our Hospice Care Program. These volunteers offer a short-term available schedule  (usually 1-4 hours) providing respite care to the patient for the family or caregiver. This allows family or caregivers to take a break, run errands, rest, etc. As the Respite Care Volunteer you can provide company to the patient by offering conversation, watching TV, reading to them, playing a game, and making sure they are overall comfortable while their caregiver is away. 

Respite Care volunteers can also be called to provide presence at the bedside of patients who are nearing death; they are most often requested when there is no family or loved ones that are available to sit with the patient. 

Training and support is provided. This is an "as needed" assignment - we would contact you when the need arises to see if it fits into your schedule to provide this service; no obligation. Our volunteers serve patients and their families in the Greater Wausau area, along with stretching up to the Northwoods, and down to the Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids area; you have the ability to choose the area of need you wish to volunteer in.  These visits can take place in the patient's home, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes.

Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services is looking to engage volunteers to help provide grief support for family members of Hospice patients. Tasks will include making outreach phone calls to individuals that have experienced the death of a loved one in our Hospice Program. Calls can be made from the comfort of your home. You are provided with direction and support for each assignment; schedules are flexible. Other bereavement tasks include: sending cards, establishing mailings, helping plan and participate in annual memorial services and other events. Bereavement Volunteers provide a listening ear, emotional support, peace, and report possible complicated grief reactions to the bereavement coordinator.

spirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services engage volunteers to provide a comforting presence, and emotional/social support to our patients and their families in our Hospice Program. Volunteers are an extremely valuable member of the Hospice team as they form close professional relationships with our patients and their families. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to help patients in their end-of-life journey live in dignity and peace while helping to offer a pain-free and comfortable environment. No matter how you help, it’s impossible to overstate how much this support means to the patient and family and to the Hospice team working with them.

Our volunteers serve patients and their families in the Greater Wausau area, along with stretching up to the Northwoods, and down to the Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids area; you have the ability to choose the area of need you wish to volunteer in.  These visits can take place in the patient's home, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. Examples of activities during this visits include: reading aloud, conversation, reminiscing, playing cards or board games, helping with light housekeeping, going for walks/wheelchair rides, and so much more! Home Care volunteers do not provide direct patient care or transport patients. 

Training and support is provided for all of our volunteers. Schedules are flexible.
