Who We Are

The Hunger & Poverty Prevention Partnership (HPPP) is a partnership of individuals and organizations in the public and private sector whose mission is to proactively identify issues of hunger and poverty and to address them with short- and long-term solutions.

The Giving Gardens of Portage County is a committee within HPPP that helps fight hunger by developing and tending community gardens and donating the harvest to individuals and families in Portage County struggling with resources for healthy food options.

Glean Central Wisconsin is a committee of HPPP which includes a network of citizens, organizations, and farmers who are united in a common goal of eliminating hunger and food waste in central Wisconsin. "Gleaning" is an effort to collect edible, but not sell-able, food at the end of the market day and then donate this produce to local food pantries.

What We Do

Mission:

The Giving Gardens program aims to promote and support efforts to maintain gardens in Portage County. The produce harvested from these gardens is donated to local food distribution centers in order to increase food security and provide healthy meal options for economically disadvantaged citizens.

The mission of Glean Central Wisconsin is to reduce hunger and food insecurity in the community while also minimizing food waste by connecting locally grown produce with economically disadvantaged individuals and families. This work is fulfilled by inviting organizations and community members to volunteer on Saturday afternoons to pick up donated food items from the vendors at the Stevens Point Farmers Market and deliver it to local food distribution centers.
