Description

Help the Portage County Historical Society prepare for a busy field trip season by joining us for Spring Clean Up at Heritage Park. As we get ready for the One Room Schoolhouse Experience, we are looking for volunteers to assist with a variety of light outdoor and indoor cleaning projects across the site. Volunteers may choose tasks that best fit their interests and abilities.

Outdoor work will involve helping clean up the grounds by picking up brush, pinecones, and other debris, including dog waste, to ensure the area is safe and welcoming for visiting students. Indoor work will focus on preparing the historic buildings that will be used during field trips.

In the Schoolhouse, volunteers will clean windows, vacuum floors, and dust surfaces using methods that do not involve microfiber cloths or cleaning chemicals. In the Franklin/Calkins House, tasks include removing sheets, folding them, and placing them in the chest located in the dining room, along with cleaning windows, vacuuming floors, and dusting without microfiber or chemicals. At the Depot, volunteers will clean windows, vacuum floors and windowsills, and dust surfaces using the same guidelines. Similar work will take place in the Printshop and Barn bathroom, where volunteers will clean windows, vacuum floors and windowsills, and dust. In the General Store, volunteers will focus on cleaning the front window and the glass on display cases.

This is a great opportunity to support local history, spend time outdoors, and make a meaningful impact as we prepare Heritage Park for a season of educational programming. Whether you are able to help for a short time or stay for the duration, your contribution is greatly appreciated.
